What does a typical homecare schedule look like?
Home care schedules are as varied as the people we serve, but they all have one thing in common: Each schedule is sufficient to keep the senior in his or her residence. Seniors typically sign up for at least housekeeping and laundry, shopping and cooking, transportation, and medication assistance. For a complete list of our services, click here.
Why should I consider homecare?
In our view, there are two reasons to consider homecare. First, choose home care if the duties required to live at your residence are becoming too much to handle alone. Second, choose home care if a health condition puts you at risk of falling or self-neglect. Husky Senior Care provides only the services that you need, at the best price possible.
Do you serve seniors who already live in retirement living, assisted living, and nursing homes?
Yes. Wherever you call home, that is where we serve you. Approximately one half of our customers live in senior living communities.
How can I feel secure if I'm alone at night?
Husky Senior Care provides Lifeline Service installation and monitoring in your home 24/7. This is perfect for a senior who feels comfortable being alone at home at night but wants a safety net in case of falls or other emergencies. If you need help, you just press the button (usually a bracelet or a pendant). We will be right over. You pay a basic monthly fee and then on a call by call basis.
Of course, a Husky Senior Care Personal Assistant may also provide overnight or 24 hour care if additional services are required.
What are my payment options?
Husky Senior Care accepts checks, most major credit cards, or automatic draft from your bank account (recommended). We can also discuss other methods of funding home care, including Long Term Care Insurance and the Reverse Mortgage.
How am I sure that my caregivers will do their work?
When you set up service with Husky Senior Care, we'll decide together on a Plan of Care. This is turned into a task checklist for the Personal Assistant. We monitor the work to make sure your caregiver is following this plan.
Do you have a shift minimum?
Yes, we have a 4 hour shift minimum. We used to offer 2 hour shifts, but found that they caused frustration to seniors because the shifts were too short to accomplish desired tasks. The staffing turnover for super short shifts was also not up to our standard.
Do you require a long term contract?
No. We request a 48 hour notice for a minor schedule change and a 2 week notice to cancel service.
Will you tell me if your services are not a good fit?
Yes. Our Director worked as an Administrator in senior living communities for many years. He knows the types and cost of the services they provide. If we think you would receive a better value going in that direction, not only will we tell you, but we'll recommend a retirement community.
I don't want to sell my house in a down market. Can you help?
Yes! Home care is more popular than ever right now for just this reason. Stay home and receive care. Keep your house. Don't lose the equity you've built up over years. Husky Senior Care is different than our competition in that we provide care for you and your house. We can arrange for basic maintenance like gutter cleaning, landscaping, and painting.
How many different Personal Assistants will I have?
Our motto is: Turnover is the enemy of quality care. By design, we want you to have as few different Personal Assistants as possible. Our job is to make your experience pleasant and seamless. If the schedule calls for more than one Personal Assistant, don't worry. We have a system that allows one Personal Assistant to communicate your likes and dislikes to a colleague so that we can provide excellent service without disruption.
Why not just hire my own caregiver?
The first thing that typically happens if you hire your own caregiver is that she won't show up! That is the beginning of the headaches. Then there is the licenses, taxes, injury liability, training, monitoring . . . and the list goes on. You get the idea. If you want to sleep peacefully at night, leave the headaches to us!
How quickly can you start service?
We do same day assessments and can have the Plan of Care in place within 24 hours. We know that this is particularly important for seniors who are being discharged from rehabilitation centers. In less urgent circumstances, we prefer to have a two week ramp-up period.
How much does Husky Senior Care cost?
Our fees range from $15.63/hour for live-in care to $35/hour for short shifts. We aim to offer the best value in home care because we know that the "Greatest Generation" didn't survive the Great Depression by over spending. To learn more about our fees, click here.
I have a Long Term Care Insurance Policy. Do you accept this for payment and will you help me use it?
Yes. Most Long Term Care Insurance Policies include a homecare benefit. We will help you understand your policy and administer it for you.
Is Husky Senior Care affiliated with UW?
Husky Senior Care was founded by UW alumni to serve the alumni communities of all colleges and universities. We have a formal giving agreement with UW. However, our company is not affiliated with, nor endorsed, by the University of Washington. We have entirely different non-overlapping missions: Husky Senior Care is a licensed in-home senior care company. UW is an educational institution. (Click here to visit our Leadership page and learn more about founding.)
What is your service area?
We have an offices in Seattle and Bellevue. We serve King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Island Counties.
Do you offer 24 Hour Care and Live-In Care?
Yes! 24 Hour Care and Live-In Care are our specialties. We are especially suited to excel with longer shifts because of our Care Manager Model. Every client is assigned not only caregivers, but a Care Manager. This insures that longer shifts and complex cases go well. This model is one of the things that make Husky Senior Care unique.
